AF Plant 42 Fire Department in Palmdale, CA is facing job eliminations

The USAF Plant 42 Fire Department in Palmdale, CA is facing job eliminations due to in-sourcing. Many of these veteran firefighters will not be eligible to even try to apply for their own jobs due to Civil Service age guidelines. In-sourcing these jobs makes no sense. This department was wrongly included in the in-sourcing initiatives. There is no benefit to the taxpayer and it could be detrimental to an essential service at one of the nations finest high technology centers. Plant 42 is a government owned / contractor operated aerospace center in the high desert of CA. There are thousands of contractor employees who work there and rely on the services of this Fire Department.

“The Air Force wants to eliminate our jobs, and they have said publicly that firing their fire fighters and giving the work to civil service employees will give them a more stable work force. Nothing could be further from the truth. On average, the fire fighters of Plant 42 have more than 20 years’ experience. That’s stability. Among us, we have more than 1,000 years of service at the Plant 42 Fire Department. That’s stability” - Plant 42 FF
